WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN TRANSLATION AND INTERPRETATION?

In essence, when it comes to our industry, translation is the art of expressing in another language ideas originally written in a different language.

Interpreting is the art of restating orally in one language what is said in another. Generally involves not only the knowledge of two languages but also speed, customs knowledge even body language awareness.

When we look up the terms in the dictionary we find the following:

translate: 1. To express in another language; change into another language. 2. To explain in other words; interpret. 3. To change into another form; transform. 4. To act as translator.

interpret: 1. To give the meaning of; explain. 2. To judge (persons, events, etc.) in a personal way. 3. To convey the meaning (an experience, a play, etc.) by artistic representation or performance 4. To explain or construe. 5. To restate orally in one language what is said in another.
